Callowhill draws many young crowds, but it’s also a great place for all adults who love their music, their art, culture and food (and not necessarily in that order). Callowhill ambiance takes you into another “world” for the day or the night.
Young artist residents and tourists alike bike along the 13th and Spring Garden special bike lanes. Biking through Callowhill is one of the favored modes of transport. However, visitors and residents alike can walk almost anywhere in the district; and easily shoot over to Center City in a flash, as well.
Another option for transportation in Philadelphia is to be dropped off at both Vine and Spring Garden streets by Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority’s Broad Street line. Or perhaps you’re driving in for a day. While parking in Callowhill can sometimes prove challenging, you can usually find spaces in a secured lot on Vine Street and then trek around by foot.

Probably one of Callowhill’s most popular subsections is Spring Garden. There you’ll find repast at great restaurants, bars, live music within a several block radius. There’s a lot to choose from and none are too far away, so if you try one and aren’t sure it’s for you, you won’t have far to go to find just what suits you.
Speaking of Spring Garden, it is one of the area’s popular art museum areas. You can go there by foot from Center City West, and it truly is one of the treasures of the Callowhill district, and Philadelphia itself.

The north-south borders of Callowhill are Spring Garden and Vine streets. The east border is Sixth St which claims a somewhat expansive industrial region north of Philadelphia’s Chinatown.
Known as “The Loft District,” Callowhill boasts both modern high rise apartments as well as factory residences; nicknamed “The Eraserhood,” because this section inspired filmmaker David Lynche’s Eraserhead. Luckily none of the bizarre things from Eraserhead will greet you there. What you’ll find is some of the best live music in Philadelphia and increasing numbers of restaurants as well as great independent venues of art
