Things to do in Philadelphia Today - Be a Tourist

by Gregg Fox on Nov 16, 2015 7:30:00 AM

How to start your staycation in Philadelphia, the greatest city!

Looking for things to do in Philadelphia? Be a tourist in your own town!

Philadelphia is a striking destination for hanging out and escaping your busy life. There are boundless options for things to do and places to visit, which can make every day a new one. You can tour historical monuments, go sightseeing, shopping, eat delicious food from around the world, and take a short stay-cation at a nearby hotel.

In fact, today I'd like to recommend acting like a tourist in your own city to see it through the eyes of somebody who hasn't ever been here or hasn't been here for awhile. Rent a hotel, leave your car at home, and make a weekend out of it!

It's always good to book your hotel in advance, but if you pick an off-time like the weekends proceeding or following Thanksgiving, you may find a good deal, even last minute. And it might just be the way to get your head ready for the holidays, since it's likely to be go-go-go once they get started.

We've already done our homework and can point you to a couple of great hotels with interesting amenities to make your weekend getaway something you remember.

1: Upscale and easy traveling with Fido: Hotel Palomar

117 South 17th Street

For the pet lover or those without easy access to pet sitters, this hotel will keep you covered, providing ammenities for you AND them.

They start with a pet welcome pack and offer pet sitting. While there are no particular limitations on pets listed, it is always a good idea to check for any restrictions when booking. The hotel provides free internet access and complimentary newspapers.

But Fido isn't the only one they care about. There is a hosted wine hour in the bar area in the evening and a free tea and coffee bar in the mornings. There is an overnight shoe shine and same day dry cleaning service for your convenience. It's 2 blocks from Rittenhouse Square,

2: Heart of the city boutique: The Independent Hotel

1234 Locust St

The Independent Hotel is located in the heart of city at Midtown Village which possesses an unpretentious blend of contemporary and cultural existence. This 24-room boutique hotel offers you elegant space and is located at the center of city.

In its proximity, The Independent Hotel has some of the most exquisite restaurants and boutiques along with cultural centers where you can explore the arts, history, culture, theatre, and music. The design of the hotel itself is quite interesting. Its lobby is beautifully decorated and so are the guestrooms. They are decked with a sophisticated style which reflects the local fervor and splendid architecture. This Georgian revival building has a combination of modern and classical in the form of its structure and decor. The rooms are furnished beautifully and have  fireplaces, cathedral ceilings, and French windows.

You'll also get free access to a nearby gym that's within walking distance, and enjoy the fine dining of Nonna's restaurant that offers American Italian cuisine.

Of course, you'll have free high-speed internet so you can keep up on your life, and if you book your stay during the week, you'll get to join their Wine and Cheese Reception.

Stop looking for things to do in Philadelphia today, and start DOING them!

Philadelphia offers a host of great things to do, and sometimes the best vacations are the short ones that are always within arm's reach. Booking a weekend away from home doesn't have to mean leaving your hometown.

I suggest taking some time off and enjoying your city through the eyes of a tourist. You'll be amazed at what you discover!
