Playing the role of tourist can be stressful. You’re generally unfamiliar with the surrounding area and will only venture to the well- known, hip spots, while never really getting a feel for what this great city is all about.
No matter what your reason for being in town, here are a few unknown or lesser-known Philly attractions to wet your whistle that even the most experienced Philadelphia dweller may not know.
A Prohibition-era bar in Rittenhouse Square is named after the Philly-based front for the largest alcohol ring in the US. This subterranean speakeasy with an unmarked door is located down the stairs at 112 S 18th St. Inside is like taking a trip to a different, more intimate time. It’s a place where you can expect posh, dimly lit surroundings, period music, cleverly named drinks and three types of “gourmet” ice. All prepared by properly dressed bartenders.
This is a spot to bring someone and surprise them with your knowledge about area hotspots.
This Southern-inspired bourbon house and juke joint may be a well-known spot with a killer whiskey list and to-die-for pork-chops. There is a lesser known upstairs area that features amenities like long wooden shuffle boards, darts and leather couches. Located at 509 S 2nd all you need to do is head up the stairs in the middle of the bar, follow the sound of the live music featuring some of the top blues performers in the area or follow the smell of fresh cut wood.
This is an amazing Philly attraction for delicious simple food, cocktails or just a great time to unwind with friends.
This Chinatown hangout is as hard to find as it is to get a seat. Located at 1029 Race St, this hidden gem is only visible by a black iron gate and stainless buzzer. Give the buzzer a ring and you’ll be lead to a waiting area where you’ll sit in a church pew and wait while your identification is inspected, seriously. Inside is a dimly lit, blood-red bar room where you can enjoy privacy, wine stained floors, recycled church lights and made from scratch cocktails from their 1,000+ bottle collection.
This is a spot that’s as unique as their cocktails and is absolutely someplace that, while in Philly, is an absolute must visit.
Known as the oldest, continuously operating press club in America (and second in the world). Opened up over 125 years ago, this club is a Jekyll & Hyde of the bar world. Featuring daytime panel talks and noteworthy dinners featuring real reporters and turning into a night time dive bar. Located at 1522 Latimer St, you’ll need to follow a line of dumpsters and look for a blue “park” sign but finding it isn’t your guarantee to enjoying it because getting inside is no easy task. You need to be accompanied by a journalist friend (if you don’t happen to be a journalist yourself), pay the $40 membership dues, work in the restaurant industry or have a little luck of on your side.
Philly is a place that’s rich in history and, if you can get there, should be taken full advantage of!

Check out what our clients have to say about their experience with us.
Our driver arrived a few minutes early, was professional, courteous and got us to the airport for our early morning flight without any problem! The car was immaculate and comfortable. I especially liked the 24 hour and 2 hour trip notification that was sent via email. It was reassuring to know they were following up. I highly recommend Corporate Sedan for any transportation needs!
