The Philadelphia Marathon is coming soon and will be held on the weekend of November 18-19th! The Philadelphia Marathon is one of the largest athletic events in Philadelphia. Besides the many charities involved in this year’s Philadelphia Marathon and the many local restaurants offering special “runner” dishes, there is a Green Initiative involved.
The Philadelphia Marathon has announced that it is doing its part to reduce its carbon footprint. The Marathon, in the spirit of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, is committed to becoming an enviornmentally-conscious event this year and into the future.
Also, in a unique program that will offer marathon training for young people, the program connects students with adult members who help them accomplish their goals and realize their dreams, including helping them to complete in this year’s Philadelphia Marathon.
November is Naitonal Diabetes Month and one of the charities involved in the race is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The JDRF is working hard to find a cure for this dreaded disease and guarantees 80% of all expenditures goes to research or research-related education.
