With that being said, here is a list of some of the more popular attractions that you can and should go see while you’re visiting the historic city of Brotherly Love.
Established in 1892, the Reading Terminal Market is the oldest farmer’s market operating in the United States. With a rich history, for better or worse, this market has emerged during the 21st century as one of the greatest public markets in the U.S.
While visiting Reading Terminal, you can experience any type of cuisine, from soul food to Asian and Middle Eastern dishes that are as true of those regions as they are to Philly. Featuring more than 80 merchants, three of whom are direct relatives to family that opened the stands over 110 years ago.
The Reading Terminal Market is open on Sundays from 9-5 and is located at 12th and Arch St.
Sitting majestically atop 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway is the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the third largest art museum in the country and a must see for any art fan that’s visiting.
The Philadelphia Art Museum is host to a spectacular array of Renaissance, American, Impressionist and Modern art, as well as a dedicated 80 period rooms located upstairs that feature a collection of art from the medieval cloister to the Indian temple.
This museum has been wowing visitors in the Philadelphia area for more than 80 years and, if you decide to arrive after 5PM, you can enjoy some live jazz or other international music concerts.
Rocky Steps & Statue
Leading up to the famed art museum are the even more famous Rocky steps and statue, one of Philadelphia’s, and the world’s most famous pieces of public art. As a rite of passage, it’s important for any visitor to Philly to run up the steps and give the Rocky “jump and shadow jab”. Originally created for Rocky III, Sylvester Stallone actually donated the real life movie props after filming wrapped.
One of the best laid and most animal packed zoos in the country is located at 3400 West Girard Ave in the Fairmount Park neighborhood. Boasting a vast, beautifully sculpted 42-acre Victorian Garden with tree-lined walks, formal shrubbery, ornate iron cages and animal sculptures.
The Philly Zoo has also been home to many firsts; the first United States chartered zoo (1859), The first orangutan and chimp births in U.S. zoo captivity, the first children’s zoo (1957) and the first exhibit of white lions (1993) among many others.
In addition to the animals, the zoo is also known for its unique and beautiful architecture which includes the country home of William Penn’s grandson, a 500+ plant botanical collection and ground breaking research and veterinary facilities.
Fun fact: While it was chartered in 1859, the opening was delayed until 1874 due to the Civil War.
Known as the birth place of American Democracy, Independence National Historical Park is located at 1 North Independence Mall. The INHP welcomes over 4.3 million visitors to the Philadelphia area annually, many of whom line up to see the parks most famous site, the Liberty Bell.
The Liberty Bell center, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, the New Military Museum, Franklin Court, the Bishop White House and the Graff house are just some of the sites that make up this national landmark.
So while you will have no trouble finding something to do while you visit the Philadelphia area, this list will help you get a little bit of culture and understand where the heart of Philly comes from!

Great customer service- tracking my flight, noting it was going to land 40 minutes early…and making the adjustment so someone was there to meet me at the airport early! Also, receiving a confirmation email 24 hours prior was reassuring as well. Thank you!!
