Natural Cures for Motion Sickness

Whether you suffer badly from motion sickness, or even a little, it’s no fun!

Nausea is probably one of the worst feelings, and especially when you want to have fun on your vacation – or if you are traveling on business and need to be at your best.

You may also not be able to get to your doctor in time for any kind of prescription remedy.  Or, you may not be someone who likes taking medications. There are, thank goodness, some natural remedies you can take and it is well worth using them.  They really work, and no side affects!

1. The common spice, ginger is a tried and true natural cure for motion sickness, used often by pregnant women, especially in those first three months when nasea and the urge to vomit are a common symptom with changing pregnancy hormones.

It turns out that ginger works regardless of the cause of the nasea.  It can be taken in a tea form by simmering the peeled ginger root (cubed) in spring water for ten minutes. Sweeten with honey or stevia and you’ve got a terrific (and strong) medicinal tea.

Two other, simpler ways to get ginger into your tummy:  you can get a sweetened tincture in a dropper bottle at the health food store.  10 drops in hot water and you have an “instant” tea.  But for those too squeamish to taste ginger directly the capsules of powdered ginger are the easiest of all.

2. Acupressure wrist bands.  Acupressure is acupuncture without needles and has long been used as a natural cure for motion sickness.  It is an ancient art for curing what ails, and motion sickness is no exception.  It works well..  There are a variety of companies that make these wrist bands so simply google “sea sickness relief,” or “acupressure wrist bands for motion sickness” and you’ll be on your way.

3. Homeopathic remedies are based on the principle of “like cures like” and these remedies were once used as primary medicine in England.  Many people swear by them as natural cures for motion sickness, and have for years.  There are a variety of homeopathic remedies you can choose from.  Two of the most common are

Argentum Nitricum – best if you experience dizziness, nausea and vomiting, a sense of claustrophobia, excitability and anxiety as the group of symptoms that characterize your motion

Cocculus Indicus – the most common of the homeopathic remedies for motion sickness – is especially effective for people who find nasea gets worse when they see or smell food.  This may also incude weakness, dizziness and a need to lie down.

4. Finally, if you fear you need additional help, hypnosis may be a good option.  A good clinical hypnotherapist will usually also teach you self-hypnosis techniques to practice at home.  There are clinical hypnotherapists who are also nurses or who have health professional backgrounds, and who have knowledge of other ways to assist you.

Our driver arrived a few minutes early, was professional, courteous and got us to the airport for our early morning flight without any problem! The car was immaculate and comfortable. I especially liked the 24 hour and 2 hour trip notification that was sent via email. It was reassuring to know they were following up. I highly recommend Corporate Sedan for any transportation needs!
