Memorial Day, which takes place on the last Monday of May, is considered the unoffical kickoff to Summer… and in the historic City of Philadelphia, we know how to celebrate our patriotism in a big way. One event in particular that we all look forward to with enthusiastic anticipation is Malvern’s annual Memorial Parade & Family Fun Day. Malvern’s is recognized as the oldest continuously held Memorial parade in America, (since 1869!), and includes several marching bands, military color guards, antique and military vehicles, beautiful floats, fire trucks, and a decorated bicycle procession… loads of fun and entertainment for adults and children alike.

Another annual event worth attending is the Gladwyne Memorial Day Parade & Block Party. This commemorative day is held in the heart of the village, rain or shine. Children are invited to decorate their bikes, wagons, strollers and walk or ride in the parade. The parade is followed by a ceremony honoring our nation’s veterans. Food, fun and entertainment fill the block party and many wear red, white and blue for this very special day.
