From Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, Christmas Village in Philadelphia evokes the yuletide spirit of a traditional German Christmas Market, with festive events, holiday entertainment, food, shopping and seasonal delights for Philly locals and traveling visitors of all ages.
An exciting calendar of festivities will be on tap at LOVE Park, (adjacent to Philadelphia City Hall), to get attendees into the Christmas mood throughout the month, in a celebration defined by the event’s motto: “We LOVE Christmas!”
Here’s a schedule of activities that visitors will enjoy at Philadelphia’s Christmas Village:
Stop by the LOVE Park after the Thanksgiving Parade and be the first to see what vendors will be offering, and taste traditional European treats. You can also get your Christmas card photos taken, and children will be able to visit Santa to share their hopes and Christmas wishes.
The Grand Opening at LOVE Park with include the traditional prologue by the original Christkind from Nuremberg, Germany, with whom visitors may get a photograph during the traditional walk of the market. Enjoy performances by a wonderful local choir and a rousing marching band. Children will squeal with delight at Christmas gifts they receive from Christkind!
The huge municipal Christmas Tree will be lit in the traditional Tree Lighting Ceremony by Philadelphia’s First Lady, Lisa Nutter!
Celebrate German heritage with traditional German dancing and singing on stage. Revel in German entertainment, food and drinks from Germany and much more so much more!
On the day of the big Army/Navy football game, Christmas Village will be offering fans late night shopping, and an opportunity to see the Village at night, lit up with spectacular lights.
Come out and help raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Philadelphia and Susquehanna Valley. Purchase a hanger at the info-booth, write your wish on it and hang it up on our Wish Wall. And don’t miss the stunning balloon release, when children throughout the crowd will be given helium balloons to release all at the same time!
After Christmas Day, the market will be open every day with German food & drinks, shopping and ongoing stage & entertainment programs.
