Best Low Cost Dining in the Philadelphia Area (Part 2)

Visiting a new city shouldn’t break the bank when it’s time to eat.

There are always plenty of options you can choose from, that don’t make your wallet cry at the first sight of the bill; the same goes for a major city like Philadelphia. So just for you, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best places to eat in the Philadelphia area that won’t ruin your budget. This is the second part of the list of places where you should go for delicious yet affordable food.

Dizengoff

A bright, industrial eat-in/take out location that features a variety of hummus, fresh pita and Middle Eastern salads. Located at 1625 Sansom St, is a must visit while in Philly. The hummus alone makes Dizengoff a destination spot.

The menu features varieties of hummus that can be topped with vegetables, meat or basic. The meat will run you the most money, at $11. But don’t expect to spend much while you get your fill of this delectable Middle Eastern eatery.

Knead Bagels

If you’re looking beyond what you expect of the typical bagel joint, Knead Bagels, located at 725 Walnut St, is just for you. The menu at Knead Bagels features the traditional bagel and cream cheese and several variations like kimchi and other daily specials.

A bagel with spread will run you around $3.50 or less, and for the hungrier moments of your day, you can load up the bagel to be a heartier version and it will still run you less than $10.

Knead Bagels also features a killer egg sandwich with smoked gouda pimento cheese and kale ($6.25). This is one stop that will leave you full and satisfied.

Pizzeria Vetri – City Center

While not traditionally a cheap-eat place. You can drop some serious coin at Pizzeria Vetri, their menu offers a plethora of delicious food combined with a relaxed atmosphere that can be found at 1615 Chancellor St.

The menu features lobster topped pizza to a less expensive, equally delicious option that range under $10. Philly’s famous rotolo, a snack that everyone in the city of brotherly love gets behind, only runs around $4.50.

Check Pizzeria Vetri out during happy hours for even better deals and enjoy one of Philadelphia’s staples.

Waffles & Wedges

Created by former food truck operators, Waffles & Wedges serves up Belgian waffles and wedge cut fries at a very reasonable $4-$5.

The menu, while simple, offers a variety of toppings that can satisfy your sweet tooth. The potato wedges are baked, not fried. Waffles & wedges also offers healthy alternatives that include vegetarian, vegan and gluten free items.

Waffles & Wedges can be found at 1511 Pine St with hours of operation listed at Tuesday-Thursday 11am-7pm, Friday 11am-8pm, Saturday 9am-8pm and Sunday 9am-5pm. They are closed on Mondays.

Square Pie

600 Catharine St is home to this eat-in/take-out Pizza and Pasta restaurant run by Chef Gene Giuffi, who also is the owner of Cochon.

Going back to his roots of the thick-crust, Sicilian style pizza of his younger years, Square Pie takes Brooklyn-style think pizza and adds chef inspired toppings like house-cured sausage and Berkshire pork.

Square Pie also offers a variety of pasta dishes. Starting at $11, you’ll be almost guaranteed a large portion of leftovers to bring home and enjoy later. While you can go all out, and for dinner, we recommend it, Square Pie offers nice alternatives to the regular pizza and pasta joint.

These are the top places where you can go enjoy a full meal while keeping your bank balance in check. While there may be others that feature low cost options, these are considered the best options while traveling around the Philadelphia area. Enjoy!

Great customer service- tracking my flight, noting it was going to land 40 minutes early…and making the adjustment so someone was there to meet me at the airport early! Also, receiving a confirmation email 24 hours prior was reassuring as well. Thank you!!

My company had an international artist picked up at JFK and dropped off in Philadelphia, and the artist had the best time. The driver kept in touch with me throughout the day, so we could plan for arrival, and our artist had the most wonderful experience with the driver. That’s really astounding considering our artist had just gotten off a red-eye from across the world. Thank you so very much!
